youth worker boost: who's your builder?

ym360 knows youth workers. We know what an incredibly rewarding, yet incredibly challenging job youth ministry can be. There are days when your spirits are sky-high, and there are days when you could use a bit of a “pick me up” from God's Word . . . That's why we're happy to offer Youth Worker Boost, one of the many valuable resources on the ym360 Blog.

Boost is a short, weekly piece of encouragement designed to, well, “boost” your spirits and encourage you as you minister to students. We consider it yet another great opportunity to serve you and your ministry.

Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain.—Psalm 127:1

If you’ve ever bought a house, there’s often a moment where the identity of the builder comes into question. Why? In many cases, the identity of the builder may very well be a statement of how well the house is constructed. The reputation of home builders is known in many communities. And in larger cities, we can still make use of web sites devoted to helping consumers keep up with which contractors do good work and which ones do bad work.

The goal is for the homebuyers to be able to save themselves from purchasing a poor-quality home built by a poor-quality builder.

King Solomon is the author of Psalm 127. As a reminder, Solomon was a guy who sort of knew what he was talking about when it came to these sorts of things (considering that God made him the wisest dude that ever lived, and all). In this verse, Solomon offers some excellent advice about building community, families, a ministry, and even individual relationships. He said the only way to insure whatever it is you’re building is right and true is to let God be the builder.

God’s plan calls for us to do the work required to “build” the different areas of our lives. But we are builders working under the guiding hand of the Master Builder.

If we forget that, our buildings are destined to fail.

Our prayer for you: Our prayer for you today is that you would commit to the “building,” but surrender the “blueprints” to God.
